Emma Baker: beautifully sewn illustrations
I first came across Emma’s work in Magma, Manchester and I thought how original and cool her illustrations were, So I met up with her to find out more.
my work is inspired by everyday events and people in my life. I’m a big fan of Lizzie Finn who also uses fabrics in her illustrations and Sara Fanelli, who as you probably know uses collage to make her artwork. As for fine artists I wouldn’t say I was a big fan of anyone in particular but I do like quite a lot of Tracey Emin pieces. I think I just like what I like no matter who did it!
The work that I’ve done has mainly been for culture magazines who have seen
some of my work and want to use it or want me to do something similar for
them. I put most of my work onto clothes and make limited edition sets of knickers
that I packaged up and send to friends. I also often customise clothes with
my own artwork.
As for the future….more of the same really! I would love to start my own fashion/music magazine that features my own, and others work now that would be cool!
