Al Heighton : I graduated from the university of Salford in 2001 having studied Graphic design, I gravitated to illustration naturally I guess many of my uni projects being resolved from drawing. I felt through my drawing it was more personal in terms of self expression plus its the only talent I process and through drawing I demonstrate a level of originality I feel. In fact it worries me the lack of talents I have. After uni I drew lots [Lots] I kept an open mind on what illustration is and what was out there? The more drawing I did, the more questions I asked myself things started to click through time and serious graft.

My top five tips:
1. Believe in yourself and Do your own thing and enjoy it, keep developing.
2.Promote yourself No one will do this for you do regular mailouts twice,
three times a year ie postcards, posters, booklets to let clients know about
you. Clients you want to work with.
3. Put in the hours, Never ever miss deadlines.
4. Dont sit waiting for the phone to ring. Do stuff.
5. Draw lots, Draw some more and learn to entertain and communicate.

I think thats great advice, if you want to find out more about Al Heightons.
