Matt Gwynne - Next Generation illustrator

Matt Gwynne is a graduate illustrator from Swansea Institute of Higher Education, his work is rich with colour from floral scenes to abstract graphic images. With ambitions of getting his work printed on t-shirts I can see a fruitfall commercial career ahead.
Angel: Tell us who you are and what you do?
MG: My name is Matt Gwynne, I graduated in 2006 with a degree in Illustration.
Like many other recent graduates Im taking on the challenge of establishing a freelance illustration career, so at the moment I’m trying to spread the word as much as possible.
Angel: Why did you decide to study art at college?
MG: I love to be creative and the fact that you could spend all day doing that was very appealing to me.
Angel: Name three creative people who’s work you love?
MG: Jon Burgerman…very unique and fun style of drawing. You have to admire what he has achieved. David Mack…amazing water colour paintings and refreshing approach to comic books. Vault49…great cutting edge illustration work.
Angel: What is the subject matter of your work?
MG: I try and keep my work fun. I use a lot of bright colours and pattern to emphasise this. As for actual subject matter, I keep an open mind and try not to limit myself.
Angel: What or who inspires your work?
MG: I like to look at lots different artists work. Its very inspiring to see so many
different styles and approaches to image making. Seeing other people produce
high quality work keeps me motivated to improve my own work.
Angel: When are you most creative?
MG: When I’m not trying too hard and thinking too much into what I’m doing, if you know what I mean. My best work has always been the quickest to produce because I haven’t been thinking about it too much.
Angel: Where do you see your work going in the future?
MG: I definitely want to get some work on t-shirts canvases etc. I’d also love to collaborate with other illustrators, if anyone is interested, please get in touch.
