Solitude

“Solitude”

A: What did you do when you graduated from High school?

JA: I went to College @ Montclair State in NJ…studied Art..concentrated in illustration and photography

A: How was your experience at college?

JA: After the 1st year or 2 it got even better…adjusting took a bit of time..but overall it was awesome..loved it…miss it still sometimes

A: What did you love about it?

JA: As far as ART goes..it opened my world..not so much that I learned a lot from the teachers as a whole.but I loved how it showed me other ways of looking at things and art history, I have never been exposed to that really before…as far as socially..it opened up my world too..I was very very sheltered growing up.

A: You were sheltered growing up was this due to where you lived?

JA: nah.. I just didnt come out of my shell or realize I could until college

I had never been exposed to (or liked) abstract or other avante guard art forms…I never knew picasso or Henry moore’s work or giacometti’s scultpures…seeing that all and having a few good teachers helped my style evolved

A: Did you have a lot of freedom on your course to express yourself?

JA: Id say so..a lot of my teachers were awful artists (in my subjective view) but they exposed me to artists I never would have known about.

I studied for hours and hours and hours books on illustrators that I was into..and also artists like Dali, and all the old masters too. Dali was my biggest inspiration in college..also loved Larson’s Far Side

A: What did you get from studying them?

JA: New techniques, ideas on composition and how to attack a canvas..Id analyze and pick apart everything about their pieces and try and shake it up and spit out something new.
