The Pigeon Detectives are a band I’ve not seen perform before, but one I can’t wait to see again. Matt the lead singer had more energy than a pack of kids running after an ice cream van. He marched up and down the stage clapping and skipping, inviting the audience to join in, which they did enthusiastically.
It was fantastic to see a fresh young band not hold back, but really give it their all. Their performance was loud, lively and full of adrenalin, and the crowd loved it; reacting with arms open wide as Matt stage dived during “I’m Not Sorry”.

Sunday night was an extremely tough decision; The Verve, Groove Armada or UNKLE. I think all of them are amazing, but I opted for The Verve. Richard Ashcroft appeared on stage overtly confident holding his arms in the air while encouraging the audience to cheer even harder. His powerful raspy voice carried by the night breeze seduced the masses, as they swayed in time to the music. They stared, transfixed by classics like “The Drugs Don’t Work” and “Lucky Man”.
The Verve have been around the block a few times, and this majestic performance proves what veterans they really are. They make it look totally effortless. Richard injects so much passion and intensity into his performance. It was intoxicating. Crouching down and clutching the microphone, he utters “Its a struggle. Life’s a struggle. On Monday morning it may be a struggle for a lot of you in a job you despise. For a boss you despise. A slave to money and then we die! God bless ya!”. The crowd erupted into a frenzy as the first bars of “Bittersweet Symphony” were heard. What a poignant ending for a festival, which is all about lifestyle, featuring people who live their lives by their own rules. We do have choices. We just need to be brave enough to make the right ones.
