The Community Of DONE.

community of DONE

Overheard, reasoned, planned, executed, DONE.

Here’s what I DID today. It doesn’t matter that this picture isn’t clear. The content isn’t important. What is important is that I did it. I started my day like most others, trying to adopt that beginners mind. Open to new ideas, fresh input, raw knowledge from the best, action oriented people I could find. I listened to their ideas. I studied their proof. I applied their thinking to my ongoing projects. I reasoned it out. Go / No go. I made a plan. I set-up a test. I took action. I got results…

What I didn’t do, was sit around talking about it.

One of the websites that I learned from today had 98 comments underneath a very practical and useful article. From their content, I would bet good money that at least 95 of those commenters took no action whatsoever on what they had just learned. They mistook an opportunity to learn and act, for an opportunity to read and share their opinion. I resisted the urge to share my opinion, because, frankly, my opinion isn’t worth much. But I’ve found, over the years, that my actions can be. Because actions make real things happen, in the real world. And whilst some would argue that the Internet is just as real as “the real world”, the comments section of most websites is most certainly NOT. You won’t ever achieve your ambitions hanging out in the comments. Steve Jobs told us to remember that most of the things around us, the things that we call life, were made by people no smarter than you and me. He told us that we can poke life and something will pop out of the other side. We can shape it, mold it, create the world we want. But that doesn’t happen when we talk. It happens when we turn our dreams into action… We are bombarded with talk about social media and online community and interaction. But for every world-changing example of that, I see 999 lowest common denominator distractions. Distraction that are moving us further and further away from real world action. So, here is my plea to you… Don’t tell the world what you “should” be doing. Don’t tell the world what you “could” be doing. Don’t tell the world how you’d like things to be, if only other people were different. And don’t wait for the stars to align. Just take some (imperfect) action. You’ll instantly and magically become a member of The Community of DONE. New members to The Community of DONE often notice that they feel a little taller and maybe even a little bit more attractive than before. And so, despite our disdain for unnecessary talk, if you’ve taken action on something we wrote or shared, we’d love to hear from you. Even below, in the only comments section you’ll find around here. Or email us through the contact page. WARNING: As someone who takes action (rather than sitting around talking bollocks on facebook) you’ll attract less “friends”. But I promise you, the ones you do attract will be far more interesting.
